We just kicked off another Hackathon at @OpenAI and the energy is palpable. Innovation and shipping are at the heart of our culture, and hackathons take that momentum to the next level. Can’t wait to see what this teams creates.
I will officially start at OpenAI as CEO of Applications on August 18. I am sharing this essay on why I believe AI can be the greatest source of empowerment for all. 🧵 openai.com/index/ai-as-th…
1/N I’m excited to share that our latest @OpenAI experimental reasoning LLM has achieved a longstanding grand challenge in AI: gold medal-level performance on the world’s most prestigious math competition—the International Math Olympiad (IMO).
Why am I excited about IMO results we just published: - we did very little IMO-specific work, we just keep training general models - all natural language proofs - no evaluation harness We needed a new research breakthrough and @alexwei_ and team delivered
Today, we at @OpenAI achieved a milestone that many considered years away: gold medal-level performance on the 2025 IMO with a general reasoning LLM—under the same time limits as humans, without tools. As remarkable as that sounds, it’s even more significant than the headline 🧵

agree with lots of what jensen has been saying about ai and jobs; there is a ton of stuff to do in the world. people will 1) do a lot more than they could do before; ability and expectation will both go up 2) still care very much about other people and what they do 3) still be…

Today, we're joining the American Federation of Teachers to launch the National Academy for AI Instruction, a five-year effort to help 400,000 teachers shape how AI is used and taught in schools. openai.com/global-affairs…
I’m not big on identities, but I am extremely proud to be American. This is true every day, but especially today—I firmly believe this is the greatest country ever on Earth. The American miracle stands alone in world history. I believe in techno-capitalism. We should encourage…
I wish data centers would offer tours to the public and schools could take field trips to them. They are the defining pieces of infrastructure of our generation, but unlike railroads, the grid, or anything else, we never get to see them and experience their scale.
It’s unethical (and reeks of desperation) to give people “exploding offers” that expire within hours, and to ask them to sign before they even have a chance to tell their current manager. Meta, you know better than this. Put people first.
Guys the Japanese bookstores look like this, we’re so cooked
also odd that the new york times seems to be the only major news outlet silent about monday's landmark ruling protecting training as “exceedingly transformative” fair use 🤔
AI privacy is critically important as users rely on AI more and more. the new york times claims to care about tech companies protecting user’s privacy and their reporters are committed to protecting their sources. but they continue to ask a court to make us retain chatgpt…

Watching @sama make fun of his brother @jaltma for being a podcast “bro” while discussing how AI might take all our jobs, is the best thing I’ve seen today.
Too many public leaders have a world view that AI and worker benefits are at odds. Bernie Sanders has never spent 100 hours wasting time fixing a bug that AI can now do instantly. The biggest benefit of AI is that we can actually spend less time on annoying drudgery.
