Virtual Virology is back - our first ever phage session. Do join us...
It is really great to have an opportunity to share my work in phage annual conference. The university of Oxford is really beautiful. #PhgOx24
Happy birthday to the boss @jrpenades 🎉🎂 Laterally transducing into the next year 🧫🧬

I don't think I deserve this, but I am honoured to be elected and very grateful to my family, past and present group members, collaborators, and mentors for making it possible! As a Spaniard, I also thank this country for such extraordinary recognition. royalsociety.org/news/2024/05/n…
🚨🫴Final PhD work is out 🧬 Cam1, a ligand-activated transmembrane pore, is associated with type III CRISPR systems and depolarises the host membrane during infection. Proud of @ChristianF_Baca 🫡and co-authors for doing the heavy lifting for a beautiful (I’m biased) story 🫴🚨
Excited to share my first work in the @MarraffiniLab, now online @Nature ! We show that type III CRISPR utilizes a transmembrane effector, which we call Cam1, to provide anti-phage immunity! Synopsis 🧵: nature.com/articles/s4158…
Happy to share that this work is now published @eLife elifesciences.org/articles/88657 ! Long live roaming! Long live leaving! #theelegantworm #celegans #imouttahere #motheriseleganting
Excited to share my thesis work in @betenoire1's lab @RockefellerUniv! We found that C. elegans makes discrete foraging decisions that are coupled to behavioral patterns unfolding over multiple timescales and that sensory neurons mediate this coupling. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
hi, organelle expert here! this is not funny, mitochondria only do this when they’re in extreme distress.

Interesting and important study 👏
1. Interested in general principles and constraints of anti-phage defense? Happy to share a new preprint where we describe a tradeoff between protection range and autoimmunity Shira Omer-Bendori Tal Hen @AvigdorEldar @GulerPolina biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

How much protein do you actually need? Turns out there's such thing as too much—and too little gq.mn/JGCIqUO
It's out! This paper on phage RNA-mediated activation of bacterial CBASS systems should activate your interest in reading it 🧪🦠🪐📑 @daltonbanh @camgroberts @MarraffiniLab nature.com/articles/s4158…
Can the simplest living things coexist 🏘️ in the face of competition? We found that bacterial viruses (phages) could easily form diverse communities, even though they shared the same resource 🍝 (an isogenic host population) (1/7) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
The first draft you send to your supervisor
In 1731 King Frederick I of Sweden was gifted a lion, one of the first lions in Scandinavia. When the lion died shortly after, it was given to a taxidermist and this was the end product. The taxidermist and the museum keepers had never actually seen a lion before, and did not…
