Overheard a woman trying to talk a kid (maybe 1st grade) out of jumping off a tall playground structure. She said, “just wait a sec and your mom will be here and we can ask her” and he said, “Stephanie, don’t need my mom, I need a count down!”

No power since 6ish yesterday evening and it’s going to be over 100 degrees today. My kids are happy to have soft ice cream for breakfast though…
When I was little I would sit on my grandmother’s porch with her and we’d watch hummingbirds flit around honeysuckle and the feeders she’d hung. It’s one of my favorite summer memories. There aren’t many hummingbirds here in NJ so I made a glass one.
Today I got very upset. My 9 year old was w me and he said, “Take a deep breath and think of how lucky you are to have a dog”. And you know, it totally helped!
Five years ago, my daughter gave me this note when I was feeling discouraged about querying. Today I get to announce that I have a middle grade book coming out into the world next year.

Today I told my youngest the premise of the new book I’m writing. He’s a tough critique but said, “This one actually sounds good.” Not sure if I’ve been complimented or insulted!
