I haven't felt as strongly about any of the threads I have written for the @GloQur project as I feel about this one. It is an unsettling piece of history and I'd be happy if it received some attention, for the sake of the lost Malay-Muslim community of Simon's Town, Western Cape.
🇿🇦 The history of the first Afrikaans Qur’an translation throws a spotlight on the afterlives of slavery in South Africa, the international movement of texts and ideas in the twentieth century, and the disruption caused by the apartheid regime. #qurantranslationoftheweek 🇿🇦

The 1965 edition of 'The Holy Qur’an' by Abdullah Yusuf Ali (1872–1953) was the first-ever English translation of the Qur’an to be published in Saudi Arabia. #qurantranslationoftheweek
This German Qur'an translation, allegedly by one Muhammad Abdallah (what a totally not AI-generated super-un-generic Muslim name!), is 100% identical to the result you get if you enter Marmaduke Pickthall's Qur'an translation into DeepL. Isn't this a weird coincidence? 😜
This week, we introduce ‘Kur'an Gerçek’ (‘The True Qur’an’) by Ali Rıza Safa, a Turkish 🇹🇷 Qur'an translation. #qurantranslationoftheweek
@GloQur @ Tokyo Camii! Thank you so much for the cordial reception, the nice iftar and the fascinating insights into the process of producing your recently published Japanese Qur'an translation! 🥰
Behold the lastest trend in Qur'an translation publishing. 😎

One of our very last threads - only six @GloQur installments of #qurantranslationoftheweek coming up after this. And it's a particularly fascinating story from British India!
Today, we will look at ‘Urdu Quran’, the first Urdu translation authored by a Christian scholar, Imad-ud-Din Lahiz (d. 1900), who converted from Islam to Christianity. #qurantranslationoftheweek
