The shocking gap in government spending on a child versus an older person is revealed in our latest report: Between 2004-05 and 2023-24, real per-person government spending on pensioners increased by 55%, compared to just 20% for children #spendingreview if.org.uk/research-posts…

It's not as common now for workers to stay with one employer for decades. I'm just hoping this Pensions Commission doesn't churn out a "this is what younger people need to save" and ignore the reasons "why" younger people aren't saving or saving more.
Son's university friend (Biomedical Sciences degree) secured a job after making 160 applications over 7 months. It took enormous resilience and determination to be successful in this gruelling graduate job market.
Today Ofsted has judged TWO children's homes run by the same company inadequate, with serious and widespread failures that mean children and young people are not protected. Take a bow, Dimensions Care Limited
#journorequest And looking to speak to people who started paying into their pension at 18 for @theipaper. Email me at [email protected] if this is you or you can help. Thanks!
THANK YOU for saying this Nic. Just today rents up 21% over 3 years yet departmental silos bang on about the need for higher saving or contribution rates by young without looking across the piste at the tsunami of essential spending they face - it’s why @inter_gen does what we do
Rents up 21% in 3 years. Yet more evidence of the loaded dice young people face in trying to forge their own lives. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Just been on @TimesRadio with @KateEMcCann talking about increasing the SPA, getting rid of the Triple Lock and public sector pensions
The triple lock increased by - or above inflation or 2.5% - during a decade of record low inflation. It then increased by 10.1% in one year alone (2022) then by 8.5% in 2023…it had done its work in the 2010-2020 period and still the #greyvote demands more …
Triple lock was introduced because the real value of state pension had fallen dramatically in real terms during the Thatcher/Blair years & we still have the smallest state pension in Western Europe Of course many pensioners have other income but many don't. try paying rent on one
With the Pensions Review launched - read why there is a fairer way than the #triplelock
Unsustainable, unpredictable, and unfair: The OBR highlights why the #triple lock on the State Pension must go. Read on for the view from an IF researcher: if.org.uk/2025/07/15/uns…
One problem with refusing to touch the triple lock is that future pensioners may end up paying in the form of a higher state pension age instead. Just trying to figure out which is more politically toxic
The true cost of the triple lock - we'll be working much longer before we're entitled to a penny. That won't affect today's oldsters of course.
BREAKING: The work and pensions secretary has announced a review of the state pension age. 🔗 Read more trib.al/AkMjkrz
@BBCNews why are you asking an old-age lobby group to make comments about younger generations future retirement fears? Why not ask young people themselves? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Completely out of touch politicians of any party grandstanding to the #greyvote will be called out. 3 million over-65s live in millionaire households & do not need the #triplelock
It would be wrong to scrap the pensions triple lock to cover the cost of spiralling welfare. Pensioners on fixed incomes shouldn’t pay the price for a broken system.
If 16 year olds can pay taxes then they should be able to chose who governs them. End of.
V comfortable with 16 yr olds having right to vote, especially as 90+ yr olds can.
As a non-party-political charity we will call out any politician who had the opportunity to improve the prospects of younger & future gens when in office but chose not to.
Labour promised not to raise taxes on working people but they did, and their Jobs Tax has led to persistently rising unemployment. Under Labour we have seen unemployment rise, taxes hiked, inflation almost double and growth stagnate. The Chancellor has refused to rule out…
Where as 6 different governments voted in by “mature” voters have done what exactly? Except keep pandering to the grey vote while u-turning on any promises to the young.
Have to say I am more concerned about the bombardment of political messages tailored to pensioners at a sensitive point in their development - and there are many, many more of them
Really interesting thread here @SophyRidgeSky – I do also worry about the bombarding of young people with political messages which will be tailored to them at a sensitive point in their development.
Absolutely right that 16 and 17 year olds should be allowed to vote in elections. They are part of our present as well as our future.
A NEW AGE FOR DEMOCRACY: 16 and 17-year-olds will be able to vote in next general election. news.sky.com/story/politics…
