I wrote C for many years. The only reason I use C++ is because templates allow inlining that's not practical in C Composing a video decoder or trading system in templates is much faster than one built with function ptrs But the rest of it sucks and most c++ coders are annoying

Instead of using flatbuffers or whatever for your messaging system, you should use binary structs and reflect them into CSV/json/SQL/etc for logging. That way when debugging logs you can see the exact internal state of your system without transcription errors or omission.
