When Ingmar Bergman wrote scripts on Fårö, he followed a strict routine. He started working exactly at 9am, at noon he took a break and ate lunch for an hour. After lunch, he would write until 3pm, and then would take a nap. He then ended his day with a walk. #IngmarBergMonth

Ingmar Bergman’s favorite director, Victor Sjöström made his all time favorite film, THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE. He cast Sjöström as the lead in WILD STRAWBERRIES, and also had a portrait of him on the wall of his office at Filmstaden and in his study on Fårö. #IngmarBergMonth
Early in Ingmar Bergman’s career he was known as the “demon director” because he was so demanding of his actors and crew. He even signed his signature with a little demon. But he is most known for all his personal demons which he explored in his films. #IngmarBergMonth

Beyond the numerous cameos that Ingmar Bergman made in his own films, he also did several voice cameos too! He did voice-overs in PERSONA, THE PASSION OF ANNA, TORMENT, & SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE. He also did a hand cameo as the hand of God in FANNY AND ALEXANDER. #IngmarBergMonth
When Ingmar Bergman was a child, his parents would use silence as punishment if he did something wrong & sometimes wouldn’t speak to him for a whole day or more. In his films, he used silence to represent dysfunctional communication between people, or man & God. #IngmarBergMonth
Ingmar Bergman’s first job was as a stage hand at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. Later he directed several operas including THE MAGIC FLUTE which was shown on Sveriges Television in 1975. Some of his film scripts have been made into operas & musicals too! #IngmarBergMonth

To celebrate his 50th birthday, Ingmar Bergman built a private movie theater at his home in Fårö. He would use it to watch at least 1 movie a day, 6 days a week from May to October. Every year on his birthday, he would screen Charlie Chaplin’s 1928 film, CIRCUS. #IngmarBergMonth

For 6 months, the image of 3 women walking around in a red room in white clothes kept returning to Ingmar Bergman. Soon he could hear them whispering. Later he realized they were watching over a 4th women who was dying and wrote the script for CRIES AND WHISPERS. #IngmarBergMonth
