I felt a bit of a fraud last night, surrounded by journalists who risk their lives in war zones. I wrote about bananas in a Coventry warehouse. But...many thanks to @FPALondon judges for giving me the Economics story of the year. A genuine honour #FPAawards23

🌞🪽🌊There’s a USA defence company developing “solar powered birds” – autonomous aircraft that can fly in the stratosphere. It’s called Icarus. What?! Does it not know its namesake flew too close to the sun and plunged to a watery death? 🧵
This week’s @thetimes biz column on Silicon Valley executives obsession with classical history. Which they plunder – to fuel their own hubris not to learn lessons from the past: thetimes.com/article/19c124…
🏛️🔥🦅 Meta plans is to open a couple of data centres – using enough energy to power a small country. What’s Zuckerberg chosen to call one? Prometheus. Named after the Titan who stole fire from the Gods and had his liver pecked out by an eagle for eternity…😬🧵
Fabulous letter from the great Deborah Moggach in today’s Times.
Love this retro St Michael’s branding from @marksandspencer. Would love to see it on a few more items, for old time’s sake. Chicken tikka sarnie, first launched in 1989, is back.

🐂💩 press release of the day… 1 in 3 men are ready to try “AI love as a cost effective option”. No they’re not. You’ve just asked them a leading question in a survey and skewed the results in a desperate attempt to get a headline.

Also...PRs – I want to talk to an actual person at an organisation. I very rarely want written answers by email. Journalism is talking to experts, hearing what they say, asking follow ups, listening to their tone of voice. It's called human interaction.
To all the PR companies with slick websites, with jazzy videos and guff about your values... SUPPLY A PHONE NUMBER THAT I CAN CALL
