HAPPY GILMORE 2 is the rare decades-in-the-making sequel that fully maintains the tone of the first film. It’s goofy, absurd, but has enough sweetness to make it work. It’s not groundbreaking cinema, but fans of the original should enjoy this one. A surprisingly good time!

I will argue that a key reason for this is that, in the mid-2000s, most studios had only one or two films a year that required this level of effects work. Today, that’s most of a given studio’s slate.
