…because it doesn’t tax the rich
If “tax the rich” were a real solution, Illinois would be a utopia. Instead, it’s hemorrhaging people, money, and opportunity illinoispolicy.org/vallas-tax-ill…
Working 2050 is a somatic journaling workshop I’m leading this Sunday at Tangible Books. It blends speculative fiction, trauma-informed movement, and low-tech roleplay to help us reconnect with what might still be possible. Sunday, 12–2 PM.

Burnett says “I know public housing—I lived it.” Residents say: “You ghosted us.” CHA has burned through everyone else. Now it might burn again. 🔗 Another story from this week's Chicago 312:
Hey I wonder what happened last time a state tried this
We’re phasing out Oklahoma’s income tax— finally. And once we get to zero, Oklahoma will be rollin like never before.
“Corporations can afford to contribute more—especially those with CEOs making 1,000 times what their workers make.” …itute-for-the-public-good.beehiiv.com/p/new-report-t…
“Many of my colleagues are expressing in words to me about the starvation, the forced starvation of the people and Palestinians there,” says @RashidaTlaib. “But they're lacking action.”
This level of barbarity is unconscionable. Nobody should be comfortable with children and families starving to death. It is morally indefensible to allow the manufactured and man-made starvation to continue. The United States must stop funding and enabling this genocide.
The emergency curfew veto barely held—and the people who beat it weren’t lawyers or alders. It was youth organizers. Another story in this week's Chicago 312:
absolutely insane to name drop several cities in TURKEY
I hear my opponents have travel plans…
I’ll be on News Night With Abby Phillip tonight at 9 CT. Last time I was on, Elon Musk got so triggered he tweeted about me at 3 am. Let’s see what happens this time.
This is actually dumb. Lizzie Kane has been holding the fire to the feet of the Housing Authority, and her reporting has actually resulted in the first positive change in that agency in 20 years. It's also super engrossing and the only reason i click a Tribune link anymore.
WE JUST CUT OUR HOUSING REPORTER BECAUSE HOUSING IS NOT AN ISSUE ANYONE CARES ABOUT IN CHICAGO WE ARE VERY SMART AND GOOD AT BUSINESS
I don’t post on this platform anymore, but today is an exception. I’ve been laid off by the @chicagotribune. It was a joy working with so many amazing people in this newsroom.
Alderman complain about smoking and crime on CTA, but refuse any form of revenue stream to address it. They want Chicago to be a failed government, by stonewalling any investment in social welfare.
Chicagoans may have to prepare for higher property taxes, with the city facing a $1 billion deficit, after the city's chief financial officer said it is "likely" the mayor could ask taxpayers to dig deeper. abc7chicago.com/post/chicago-m…
Huge loss and such a clear example of how little Alden pays attention to the role of journalism v. their bottom line -- I don't know Lizzie but she just wrote one of the best pieces on housing + Burnett that I've read.
I truly believe that housing is one of the most important issues of our time. I hope you will see my byline again soon. I have too many questions left unanswered for anyone to shut me up for long :) If you know of other journalism opportunities out there, please let me know
We at @CTGuild are devastated today by the company's unexplained, unnecessary, disrespectful and stupid decision to lay off five guild colleagues. The only reason is greed. These brilliant people deserve so much better than better. Chicago deserves better too.
Today, @chicagotribune laid off five guild staff members in a roughly 10% cut to our newsroom. These layoffs underscore a sad but unsurprising failure of leadership by Alden Global Capital, our hedge fund owner, and local management.
