It's official: the ballots have been counted and we have officially been recognized as the Washington Post Tech Guild by the NLRB! In a 171-38 BLOWOUT vote, we voiced loudly that our union is important to us! That's 81%!
I just signed a petition: Nexstar and The Hill: No Layoffs and a Fair Contract!. Sign here: actionnetwork.org/petitions/nexs… @hillguild @WBNG32035
@NXSTMediaGroup management is on-site at The Hill’s offices in D.C. today -- we’re standing united outside the building demanding a fair contract! (P.S. We made more than enough copies to replace the fliers you keep tearing down 🙂)
"They fired one of our colleagues to make the lawsuit go away."
We stand in full support of these journalists and for a free press!
When I left The Hill last year I owned the "record" for most stories written on the breaking news desk in one shift. 18 stories. All while barely affording to live in DC. It's not something to be proud of, it's proof of corporate mgmt that does not prioritize news quality.
@thehill's breaking news reporters are asked to write upward of half a dozen stories daily to drive traffic to the site for less than $50k/year. Throwing them under the bus is beyond disappointing @NXSTMediaGroup.
No one at @thehill is expendable, and not a single person in this newsroom is — to use @NXSTMediaGroup’s Sean Compton’s words — a “loser.” I stand with @hillguild.

New: The Hill privately convinced the owners of Truth Social to drop it from a defamation lawsuit Trump's company filed against 20 news outlets over reporting an erroneous earnings figure. As part of the settlement, the Hill's owner agreed to fire one of its own journalists..
Love hearing that the largest owner of tv stations in the country @NXSTMediaGroup sacrificed a reporter in 2023 to appease Trump + their network president called hardworking journalists “losers!” #Nexstar is still pursuing illegal layoffs @hillguild @thehill
“One person with direct knowledge of the situation told Semafor that Nexstar, eager to avoid Trump’s wrath, had agreed to fire the reporter in exchange for being dropped from the case.” semafor.com/article/04/20/…
🟡 SCOOP: For the last year and a half, Truth Social has relentlessly pursued a defamation case against 19 media companies that flubbed a story about the platform’s earnings. But one outlet that misreported the story managed to quietly convince the owners of Trump’s conservative…

Today, @NXSTMediaGroup conducted a series of layoffs of The Hill’s editors & supervisors. We are sincerely saddened to be losing members of this newsroom — every reporter, editor, video producer, event planner, regardless of union status, makes @thehill what it is. 1/3
Spotted in @thehill: an entire page touting the company’s growth in a direct appeal to advertisers. Wonder if @NXSTMediaGroup has told them it’s planning to lay off nearly 30% of our newsroom?🧐
The Hill is No. 1 because of dedicated, hardworking, talented reporters. @NXSTMediaGroup wants to get rid of 1/3 of those reporters and underpay those they keep. @hillguild is demanding change.
