What a great first day of the @hetecon! Highlights included the presentations by Michael Roberts and Ho-fung Hung on China's unequal development, the hegemony of the dollar, and the limitations of RMB internationalisation.

In London for the #AHE2025 Conference at King’s College. I'll present a paper (co-authored with J. Reis) on the political economy of public spending in Portugal (1974–2022). We examine how institutions, growth, and party ideology shape fiscal policy— often in unexpected ways.
