On this day 1983 The #Arsenal signed goalkeeper John Lukic for the first time from Leeds United, a club that he rejoined in 1990 before another stint at Highbury again in 1996-01. The big man had a brilliant career as a professional footballer, winning the League twice.

Happy 59th Birthday to a former #Arsenal player Martin Keown. He first joined the club in 1980 as a schoolboy before a move to Aston Villa in 1986 (later Everton). After rejoining the Gunners in 1993, Keown then played until 2004 and amassed a total of 449 games for The Arsenal.

This The Grove podcast is rapidly increasing my attention to it. Just recently there was Ruth @ruthbeckart and now I see there's Trevor @GoonerHillsy. Maybe I'm in the bubble, but that's a good bubble to be in. And the lads from The Grove seem to be a very enjoyable duo.

Is it just me but I'm annoyed to have these women standing there like.. You know what I mean. Having seen a lot about the equality that I 100% support, could it be time to have male [are they] cabin attendants to 'pose' there, like.. Maybe it's just me. Come on The #Arsenal.

Having been at The #Arsenal for two seasons, on this day 1973 Liam Brady, 17, signed his first professional contract with the Highbury club. Here's 'Chippy' pictured in Aug 1973:

Happy 80th Birthday to former #Arsenal player Jon Sammels - here pictured aged 17 in 1963 in England U18 duty at Wembley. Born in Ipswich, Jon represented the Gunners between 1960-71 and played 270 games scoring 52 goals.

Remembering former #Arsenal player Danny Clapton who was born OTD 1934. He featured 225 times for the Gunners between 1954-62. After four attempts to kill himself, he finally committed a suicide in 1986 aged only 51. Suffered bad depression, so take care of your loved ones.

Having been at The #Arsenal since 1960 (first on trial), on this day 1971 Jon Sammels, 25, was transferred to Leicester City for a fee of £100k. Sammels was the first to depart from the double winning team, though he didn't feature in the FA Cup final. Turns 80 tomorrow.

At least The #Arsenal have learned. Was it like five quids per game the last summer?

Having joined The #Arsenal in 1982 as a schoolboy, on this day 1992 David 'Rocky' Rocastle, 25, was transferred to Leeds United for a fee of £2m. The Gunners' Player of the Year 1986 featured 277 times for the Highbury club scoring 34 goals. David also won 14 England caps.

On this day 1987 The #Arsenal introduced their new £800k signing from Leicester City - Alan Smith, 24 - as the Gunners won 6-0 at Meadow Park against Gloucester City in a Barrie Vassallo testimonial match. Brilliant crowd of 3,170 turned up. Would love to hear if you were one?
