This Saturday, millions of Shia worldwide will commemorate 'Ashura' - the 10th day of Muharram (the first Hijri month). Ashura was originally the first fasting day, before the month of Ramadan, and was probably inspired by Yom Kippur fast (also observed on the 10th of Tishrei).
