BREAKING: @TheJusticeDept announced a policy revision to the United States Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) which includes exemptions of criminal charges for "good-faith" security researchers. This is a huge victory for our cause! #HackingIsNotACrime justice.gov/opa/pr/departm…
The day after the movie WarGames premiered in 1983, incumbent US President Ronald Reagan watched it at Camp David. Four days later, Reagan met with national security advisors. Members of Congress described the plot and asked the advisors if something like that could happen. In…

In his 1984 book "Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution", @StevenLevy critiques the hacker ethic, an anti-authoritarian and freedom of information philosophy originating in the hacker culture, which asserts that sharing of intellectual goods is an ethical imperative.

Once upon a time… a wise individual said, "Nothing gets deleted from the Internet". Yet "thought leaders" yearned for Internet points, going platform to platform, seeking validation from their peers, only to have it backfire. This poll was DOA. Well played hackers, well played.

Why double down when you can… triple down? A poll courtesy of @BWirtLeadership, CRO @Telesystemus, who abruptly left X today after the hacker community's backlash concerning their gimmicky #HackersSuck marketing campaign. Just going to leave this here.👇 linkedin.com/posts/brucewir…

Stickers, magnets, and buttons! Just in time for a slew of hackers to serendipitously descend upon the @Telesystemus "cybersecurity summit series" where an "ethical hacker" is speaking. "Hackers suck… but first, money". #TelesystemSucks #ITsAboutTrust redbubble.com/shop/ap/160429…

Gimmicky FUD marketing for the @Telesystemus #HackersSuck "cybersecurity summit series", where an "ethical hacker" is scheduled to speak. 🤡
We won the battle, but lost the war. Hacking IS a Crime. Please take a moment to read our press release. hackingisacrime.org

There's a subtle distinction between ethics and legality. We do not under any circumstance condone or support unethical/legal or unethical/illegal acts. We do however, condone and support ethical/legal acts and seek to reform policies which criminalize ethical/illegal acts.

Remember, remember the 5th of November. It is becoming increasingly evident the world is approaching a precipice from which it may not return. The status quo establishment's divide-and-conquer tactics have long sought to divert our discontent away from it and toward one another.…

WarGames was the first mass-consumed visual media with a hacking theme. In the wake of the film, news media focused on the potential for a real-world scenario to materialize and contributed to the creation of the Counterfeit Access Device and Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1984.

Hackers often refrain from disclosing privacy violations and security vulnerabilities because status quo institutions attempt to silence them with legal threats. We advocate the decriminalization of hacking to advance transparency and accountability from these institutions.
What was the first security vulnerability you discovered and/or exploited?
