💬“We were surprised that the increased likelihood of #asthma was only found in female👩🦰 night shift workers, and a similar effect was not found in male night shift workers," Robert J. Maidstone, PhD, @OfficialUoM, told Healio. healio.com/news/allergy-a…
Women👩 working permanent night shifts🌙 vs. day shifts faced an elevated likelihood for moderate to severe #asthma, whereas this was not observed in men, according to data published in @ERSpublications. healio.com/news/allergy-a…

We thank @JimShannonMP who tabled an important debate to discuss World Asthma Day in parliament last week. MPs recognised the devastating impact that asthma can have individuals, their families and our healthcare system. We urge the government to prioritise lung health in the new…

In 2019, @asthmalunguk published the Asthma Still Kills report, showing that non-T2 related airway diseases lagged far behind in terms of available treatments and care. I’m thrilled to be with the faculty again at #ICAN 2025 to drive international collaboration) in this area
And great to see @aluk_research - funded work showing the impact of shift work on asthma from @h_durrington using @ukfuturehealth data. #ICAN25

🚨 New research news! Our funded researchers have found that taking a puff of your preventer inhaler mid-afternoon could be the best way to keep asthma symptoms under control. @h_durrington orlo.uk/32yfj
It’s all about timing! Taking inhaled steroids (..not the blue inhaler as shown in the picture!) in the mid afternoon may be the best way to suppress nocturnal peak in airway inflammation and airflow obstruction in asthma. bbc.com/news/articles/… @h_durrington
Treating asthma with inhaled corticosteroids at 4pm is more effective than twice daily or in the morning. See our new publication in Thorax 🫁🕓 and the brilliant @Ran_Wang_UoM thorax.bmj.com/content/early/…
Effect of time of day and seasonal variation on bronchodilator responsiveness: the SPIRO-TIMETRY study thorax.bmj.com/content/early/… @CambsRespPhys @Akhilesh_Jha
🫁 ⏰ When do you perform bronchodilator reversibility testing to help support a diagnosis of asthma? We had a 👀 at the what effect time of day and season has on responsiveness @HLRI_Cambridge @CUH_NHS Results published in @ThoraxBMJ today! thorax.bmj.com/content/early/…
Do our body clocks affect how well diagnostic tests work? Researchers @HLRI_Cambridge @CUH_NHS @RoyalPapworth have shown that a routine test for diagnosing asthma works better in the morning, becoming less reliable throughout the day. The reliability of the spirometry test also…

"Lab research happens, but you don't know much about it. This was a great opportunity to understand it better." Simon from @RegenSocio wanted to explore breathing conditions. In his #LetsTalkLabs film, he discusses asthma with @ManchesterBRC researcher & Hon. Consultant Hannah.
