joining the war on shanks on the side of shanks
not to mention this trope is normally reserved for protagonists so shanks stepping aside for luffy to shine subverts the nature of being the "chosen one." what if the chosen one was actually the stepping stone for the true protagonist. shanks is the anakin to luffy's luke.. CRAZY
i love how oda is using the child of destiny trope for shanks bc it’s not positive for him. really pushes the idea that shanks is stifled by fate and isn’t actually free, both in-universe and metatextually. he’s trapped, but luffy will free him from the role he was forced to play
Tiny Buggy and Shanks in a risograph style! zoom in to see some fun textures :) #onepiece
child of destiny and child of chance.............. FIGHT !!
shanks is trapped in an endless war with fate. he's doomed to see the future & it ruins his ability to stay present & live in the moment. but buggy is always living minute to minute; he embodies pure luck/chaos, & he's managed to find his way back to shanks anyway. they're LINKED
MY CHILD OF DESTINYYYY
roger changed the world that day at loguetown, but he knew he would not have to bear the weight of his consequences. shanks did. and that is heartbreaking for the boy who only wanted to travel a free world with nothing to tie him down

Oda (1998): “When Shanks appears frequently in manga, you can assume that One Piece has entered the final saga” Gorō Taniguchi (Oda’s friend who has been told the ending): “Shanks is just as important to One Piece as Luffy” Oda (2025): Shanks is the “child of destiny”
i dont actually remember if posted this gt rhugeta but. whatever the second one is new so idc
soooo telling that he says “abandon” (he’s talking to a guy he supposedly hates btw). ohhhhh buggy and your many psychological issues
thinking about how oda shows buggy’s struggle between his heart and his head again. oh my sweet boy. you are so endearing
this is what shanks and buggy sound like to everyone else on roger’s crew
