Heavens and Earth: The Story of Astrology Through Ages & Cultures (2022) @penguinindia
Carl Jung was born on this day in 1875. In a world that rejects invisible, he was the only one to insist on an unconscious that was constantly speaking to us. To listen to its call is vital for our individual & collective destinies. I wrote about it here: engelsbergideas.com/notebook/jungs…
Tragedy of the modern world, which has compounded further since he wrote it. I feel that every day away from Nature is a day unlived. Awareness of Nature is the first step towards self-awareness.
Carl Jung’s house outside Zurich. No photographs allowed inside, but I’d estimate 15% of his library pertains to Indic themes — Duessen, Zimmer, Eliade, the collected Muller, Ramakrishna, Aurobindo. His desk sits facing a Bodhisattva. A lovely place to concoct the archetypes!
“His thought is nothing less than a bridge between the modern condition and eternal human ideas.” I wrote for @EngelsbergIdeas about Carl Jung and why his ideas are now more important than ever before. engelsbergideas.com/notebook/jungs…
Born 150 years ago, the Swiss psychologist Carl Jung drew on mythology and personal experience to create a visionary body of work, resonant in a disenchanted age. Jung’s map of the soul | @gar_i_ma engelsbergideas.com/notebook/jungs…
This stuff fills me with incredible dread—not least because of how it’s basically a given that there won’t be any political debate over such things. There’s no expectation that we, the people, should have any say in how our resources are squandered and abused.
This A1 story on Meta’s data centers, and others, use of water in an age of AI is incredible. /1
And it is thinking oriented towards certain universal ideas— truth, beauty, and change— understood through one’s personal perception. Mimicking this through an LLM rather than actually living your life for better and worse is just tragic.
Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
We need a bigger discussion in society about what it means to throw something away. There is no ‘away’. Seems we are determined to live out the plot of Wall-E
Somewhere in Delhi and its harsh sun, nature can still be pretty.

Probably one of the most prophetic paragraphs of the twentieth century - from Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death (1985)
AI is going to be the new social media. We hopped onto Facebook and the likes because it seemed fun and now many will hop onto AI the same way only to end up watching branded content reels and random people turned into celebrities because they can spend hours online everyday 🙄

I've made a project called "Shruti" to preserve the memories from fading cultures of India and I invite you to contribute by interviewing your parents/grandparents. My grandmother is 93. After she passes on, so much of cultural memory will also be gone with her - stories,…
