New updated #review published! 📖 Excisional #surgery versus ablative surgery for ovarian #endometrioma cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.10… @CochraneLibrary
Main findings: for the surgical treatment of endometriomas, excision may be better than drainage and ablation for improving painful periods, pain during sex, the risk of endometriomas returning, and the risk of needing more surgery
So when can we start providing evidence to @The_HCPC about the leadership at #OxfordUniversityHospitals, including obstetric & midwifery leadership teams that have allowed preventable harm to flourish? 527 harmed families in the Families Failed by OUH Maternity Services group now
🚨 Senior NHS managers are to be regulated by the @The_HCPC with a barring list to prevent those guilty of misconduct from working again in the NHS. @wesstreeting says this "will slam the door in the face of unsuitable managers"
‘Informed choice’ @believemeithurt We want authentic informed consent. Informed choice is a misnomer when it comes to childbirth. In the U.K. we have ideologically driven antenatal messaging which undermines #InformedConsent. This needs to be addressed. #MaternitySafety
The latest Lancet article highlights a vital truth: Childbirth is too often polarised between over-medicalisation and the idealisation of ‘natural’ birth – neither serves women well. Childbirth should be about evidence, informed choice, and autonomy. What does informed choice…
Behind every £1 of this is a mini story. The need to buy incontinence nappies. Feeding supplies for tube feeding. Syringes for giving 20 doses of medicine a day. Suction catheters to stop choking. £27bn worth of mini stories of suffering & indignity theguardian.com/society/2025/j…
When we started the #OxfordUniversityHospitals maternity campaign, I didn’t imagine I’d be having to ask Qs of the CEO of @CareQualityComm, or to have to contact Oxfordshire’s Safeguarding Boards, or have so much contact with @ThamesVP. #MaternitySafety familiesfailedbyOUH.co.uk
The Families Failed by OUH Maternity Services campaign was recently told by an ‘adviser’ that the public & media are not interested in cases on non-catastrophic harm or even near misses when we raised the harm caused by forceps. 🧵 #BirthTrauma #MaternitySafety #MaternityScandal
That is bullsh*t. Women’s bodies matter. Our continence matters. Our sexual health matters. At Oxford University Hospitals’ Trust there was a ban on elective caesareans for years which denied NHS patients the right to choose how to give birth- going against NICE guidance.
We believe this drive to reduce the caesarean rate led to more forceps deliveries- a pattern we believe is still happening today based on our families’ experiences in our campaign group of over 500 harmed families.
Too often midwives and obstetricians do not discuss the risks of forceps- including severe tearing, incontinence, nerve damage & long-term trauma- undermining #informedconsent. These are not near misses. This is not just “poor care”. They are devastating injuries.
When will @RCObsGyn ensure that caesarean thresholds are lowered & training in ventouse use is improved? Why are women in the U.K. experiencing such inhumane care at @OUHospitals @TeamOUHMat? #BirthTrauma #MaternityScandal #OxfordUniversityHospitals
I really cannot understand that forceps are still used. Here in the Netherlands they have been banned for years now and we have a lower CS rate than the UK.
Too right. Womens health matters. All of it. You can’t make an informed decision (not a choice folks- it’s a decision), if you don’t have all the info - thus making it informed. Enthusiastic use of forceps hurts women.

You'd think it would be more cost effective to invest in better facilities, more staff, better training and oversight and even higher pay
It took some time - but my article about birth trauma and requests for pain relief with my co authors - K Detering; C East and A Whittaker - has been published. Thanks again to the women involved in this study. …pregnancychildbirth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11….
There is an increase in heavy mentrual bleeding with the use of Anticoagulants (Blood thinners)like #Rivaroxaban aka #Xarelto & warfarin. Patients should be Counselled on an increased Risk of a side effect of Heavier Periods. Similar issues with Setraline Zoloft @RCGP @HQIP
Yes Dr Counselling is needed for women on the effects of anticoagulants (blood thinners to reduce blood clots) on menstrual bleeding. It should be part of patient history taking to review current medications before treatment @RCObsGyn @drhumki @WileyOBGYN onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.111…
