Samuel Miller says the “A” in amen is pronounced like the “A” in amiable. I will attempt to no longer ever use the short “a” sound like in apple or the third sound found in father. It’s āmen not ămen or “ah”men.
In good public prayer, then, the voice, and the whole manner are made the objects of serious and diligent attention. And as a happy result here cannot be reached by ‘mimic attempts,’ we can only hope to succeed by having the heart right. - SM
