I welcome the agreement on our 16th package of sanctions. The EU is clamping down even harder on circumvention by targeting more vessels in Putin’s shadow fleet and imposing new import and export bans. We are committed to keep up the pressure on the Kremlin.

Apparently, Federal Government can dictate strict fuel efficiency standards and many other costly regulations to the automotive industry, but lacks authority to demand preferred pricing from Big Pharma for drugs bought directly or indirectly through various government programs 🤔
Midwit comment. Federal Gov pays either directly or indirectly for drugs through VA, Medicare, Medicaid, DoD, HHS and other agencies/programs. They can demand preferred pricing just like they can demand Lockheed doesn't sell F-35s to USAF at 4X the price they sell them to allies.
How does POTUS tell a private American company what they can/can’t charge for their goods?
We would not tolerate @LockheedMartin selling F-35s to USAF at 4X the price they sell it to our European or Asian allies but somehow we’ve tolerated precisely this for every new Big Pharma drug purchased directly or indirectly through the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, DoD and so on.
Prices for new drugs will effectively migrate to a different model, closer to how Apple prices an iPhone (allowing for somewhat "limited" geographical variation) rather than the old Big Pharma model of extreme 4X+ price differences between US and other markets.
