Ethical Farming Ireland
@ethicalfarmIE
A voluntary group campaigning for a better life for farm animals. We are against all aspects of intensive farming and live export.
🇪🇺 The @EU_Commission acknowledges Brittany Ferries' crossing between Ireland and France is a #welfare failure, as calves are not being fed sufficiently. Brittany Ferries must act - and policy-makers must step up for stronger animal welfare measures in the updated #transport…
✍️ We signed a follow-up letter with @CIWF_EU, @L214, @Eyes_on_Animals and @ethicalfarmIE calling on Brittany Ferries to stop exporting farm animals, with a focus on the suffering endured by unweaned calves on its ferries: bit.ly/4kTwgS0 #BanLiveExports
Legislation states docking is permitted where there is evidence of tail biting, for a specified amount of time. It's not carte blanche to dock continually. So why do 99% of Irish pigs have docked tails? This figure hasn't changed since the law was introduced #PigAwareIreland 🐷

Proper funding for the transition towards cage-free systems & regenerative farming is essential to 🐮better protect animals 🌾address environmental degradation 👩🌾improve the resilience of farmers and local communities Our reax to the MFF & CAP proposals is in the comment.
We see sheep & cattle grazing in fields all over Ireland but where are the pigs? Some try to claim it's for their own good, they don't like being outdoors. Their natural environment is woodland, not an overcrowded pen in a barren shed with no proper enrichment #PigAwareIreland 🐷

Tail docking was banned over 30 years ago yet over 99% of Irish pigs have docked tails. It is permitted when there has been an outbreak of tail biting but only for a specified period of time and for a defined group of pigs. It is illegal to dock tails continuously, but that is…

It’s long overdue that the EU bans cages for all farmed animals. Animals should be free to explore and exhibit their natural behaviours, like foraging & making nests. Find out more about our work to #EndTheCageAge ⬇️ ciwf.org/programmes/end…
This should be in all slaughterhouses and the public must be able to view. Full transparency is the only way the public can have confidence that legislation is fully adhered to, and anyone who eats meat should know how it ends up on the plate. clare.fm/news/calls-for…
Animals should not be in cages, it's cruel and unnecessary! Please sign and share #EndIt bit.ly/3VsCCib
We can end factory farming and instead create a food system that’s fair for farmers, doesn’t harm our planet, and where farmed animals lead lives worth living 💚 Help us get there by signing our petition calling on world leaders for reform⬇️ #EndIt bit.ly/3VsCCib
We are told Irish dairy is feeding the world but it is doing the opposite. Substandard milk powder (a waste product basically) mixed with palm oil is being passed off as nutritional food. Plus farmers are being pushed out of business in the importing countries because they can't…

In its work to finally modernise the EU's animal welfare rules, the @EU_Commission launched a call for evidence – and we have responded. Business as usual is not an option. The Commission must align legislation to the latest scientific evidence & finally #EndTheCageAge.
This happens time and time again. There are several visits by a DAFM inspector before animals are finally seized, the farmer claims mental health issues (not saying it's not genuine) and is allowed to continue farming. Cases of this nature should result in prosections and…

Reminder: fish are also confined in factory farms – they’re just underwater. With little legal protection for their welfare, fish in aquaculture facilities are vulnerable to poor conditions. This must change. It’s time to #RethinkFish 🐟 ciwf.org/programmes/ret…
So @BrittanyFerries isn't content with it's current level of cruelty, they will increase their service to a daily sailing so even more calves can be subjected to immense cruelty on their boat. Shameful lack of ethics and morals #BanLiveExports m.independent.ie/regionals/wexf…
Unweaned calves should be with their mothers, not crammed into trucks and packed off to cruel veal farms or worse! @Irish_Ferries @BrittanyFerries @StenaLineUKIE stop profiting from cruelty! #BanLiveExports @ciwf

The line goes - ‘In a world where you can be anything be kind’ but we’d urge you to be #compassionate too Farmed animals deserve a life worth living not the cruel, caging and confinement of #FactoryFarming It’s the biggest abuse of animals on our planet and shames us all @ciwf
An octopus is an amazing, incredibly intelligent animal. Farming them in small tanks to satisfy tastebuds is abhorrent. Please sign and share ✍️ ciwf.end.it/octopus/ #StopOctopusFarming
📢 Plans to farm octopuses MUST be stopped. We cannot let these amazing animals become the next species exploited in factory farms for profit. Help us #StopOctopusFarming by signing our #EndIt petition here⬇️ ciwf.end.it/octopus/?utm_c…
The @EU_Commission has called for evidence that animals should have a life free of cages & better welfare standards. We will be responding to ensure the voices of animals & citizens lead to a revision of welfare rules & that we #EndTheCageAge once & for all:…
