Day 26 TIL came across the name Mike Moritz, and didn't realize how cracked he was. quietly behind google, paypal, linkedin, yahoo, stripe etc. one of the most influential investors of the last 40 years.
Day 25 TIL Shanghai traffic is unique bc there are countdown timers on the lights. These timers also show up on Baidu maps. How is that possible? All thanks to a traffic info api that 3rd-party chinese devs can request access to. Wen US? 🚥
Day 24 TIL Having grad dinner in shanghai and got a physics lesson. If you pour slow, the tea stays in one smooth ribbon (laminar flow), pour fast and it goes wild and sprays (turbulent flow). velo and diameter matter, set the cup down so you won’t accidentally spill the tea 🫖😂

Day 23 TIL quick refresher, LLMs use a context window. they don’t remember forever, but split a prompt to a series of tokens to read later. hit the token limit, and it forgets earlier stuff, very short-term. persistent cross-chat memory is possible with storage outside the model.
Day 22 TIL reading a pg essay and came across a crazy word origin: the english word “travail” (meaning hard work) and the french “travailler” (to work) both trace back to a word meaning “torture.” 💼😅
