So the Marathon to empower local women in coffee is currently inconveniencing local women by grabbing their land to construct a road for the factory. One of the women says he is calling them poor and that there’s nothing they’re going to do to him.

How much do you spend on an acre of a coffee farm? On average, it’s Ugx 7m per acre for 3 years with the following yields per tree. Arabica Year 4 3kgs Year 5 5kgs Year 6 to 9 7kgs - 9kgs Robusta Year 3 3kgs Year 4 5kgs Year 5 to 9 -15kgs A coffee tree lasts for 40yrs.
Use this information! In one acre, 450 Robusta trees can get you 3kgs of FAQ. That is around Ugx 16m a season. In an acre, 660 Arabica trees at an average of 3kgs of FAQ per tree is Ugx 29.7M per season. 1kg of coffee roasted beans is 55,000 and can give you 80cups Ugx 1.2M!
The global market for instant coffee is concentrated, with the top five brands holding almost half of the total market share. Due to the limited differentiation among their products and low switching costs, there is intense competition among these players.
There’s a theory that if we add value to our coffee we can earn more? That’s not our competitive advantage! Roasted coffee is less desirable for imports because it begins to lose flavor and aroma shortly after being roasted unless shipped quickly in specially designed packaging.
