First study from the lab is out! We describe ApuRs, a new family of microbial rhodopsins unique from apusomonads. ApuRs represent the first anion-conducting rhodopsin channels that can be controlled by UV light, offering potential as new optogenetic tools. doi.org/10.1101/2025.0…
Thrilled to share our lab's first evolutionary cytoskeleton study! We uncover two distinct FtsZ paralogs in Odinarchaeota—OdinFtsZ1 forms curved filaments, while OdinFtsZ2 assembles into spiral rings. A glimpse into tubulin evolution! #Eukaryogenesis #AsgardArchaea #cytoskeleton
Distinct filament morphology and membrane tethering features of the dual FtsZs in Odinarchaeota biorxiv.org/content/10.110… #biorxiv_biochem
Centromere evolution isn't a sudden switch! Our study shows centromere transitions are a step-by-step process driven by a combination of drift and selection. Discover how the kinetochore interface shapes this gradual change in our new preprint doi.org/10.1101/2025.0… 🧵(1/8)
Most plants can`t handle salt, but have evolved strategies to survive in it. How do they do it?🌱 Excited to share some of our first insights using a new cryoelemental imaging technique to answer these questions at the subcellular scale! (1/8) @Nature nature.com/articles/s4158…
New #LabPic since today! The lab is growing & will double by the end of this year, so there will be new faces soon🥳🎈. From Right to Left: @HiralABShah, Marine, @Baukjeje, @MargaridaMArauj & @LargowSandor.

Well if you are into Animal Origins, well you can't really miss this one out this year. And if you are not into Animal Origins, well, you still cannot missout on Roscoff and "THE" Kouignnettes. See you there.
Monod Conference "Origin of metazoans": fossils, genomes, cell biology, gene regulation, development, and more. Join us in Roscoff for an exceptional speaker line-up and stunning venue! 🗓️Abstract deadline: March 4. Register and share! insb.cnrs.fr/fr/origin-meta…
🚨Why can’t mammals regenerate legs or arms like frog tadpoles or salamanders? Our preprint tackles (part of) this BIG question with surprising findings about oxygen sensing 🔗biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉 🐭 vs 🐸 #evodevo #regenerative #cellbio 🧵👇
After a year filled with intense emotions: the worst being the ongoing slaughter back home & the best being my move to @UNIGEnews with👌🎉 discoveries. I wish you all an amazing 2025. May this year bring real justice, free from double standards. & yes i'll take spaghetti too.
We are finally back. 👌
Happy to announce the successful conclusion of the negotiations on Switzerland’s association to Union programmes, including Horizon Europe and Euratom. Together, we’ll tackle global challenges, advance innovation, and shape a sustainable future through cutting-edge research.
A collaborative team from University of Geneva (@unige_en) and EMBL, has been awarded by the @MooreFound for a biodiversity research project. Led by @dudin_o and @Dey_Gautam, this initiative will develop a morphological atlas of microbial eukaryotes. 🦠 unige.ch/sciences/chimi…

Where does pattern come from inside cells? in this revised preprint, @aralbright93 shows that regionalization of mRNA in a Stentor cell depends on dynein motors and the microtubule cytoskeleton doi.org/10.1101/2023.0…
So happy for you mate. A new era for your lab !
Thrilled to announce that our lab is relocating to the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory of the Max Planck Society @maxplanckpress and @MPI_Bio in winter 2025. We’ll have open positions— please help us spread the word and stay tuned for more updates! 🐸 🐁 🥳
