Texas could be headed toward a debt death spiral. Texas’ local governments have accumulated an eyepopping $500 billion in debt, which is an increase of almost $40 billion from the prior year. That’s almost $16,000 owed for every man, woman, and child in the Lone Star State.

How is it that the Texas Legislature keeps cutting property taxes every year, but property tax bills only seem to go up? The answer: a group of taxpayer funded lobbyists and profiteers that fight to block accountability and increase spending and taxation at the local level.

The spending problem is in Austin, as they pass one law after the next forcing schools to be in compliance. When the schools hires admin to be in compliance, the politicians blame the schools for overspending.
