Teacher of college writing. WPA. disc golfer. bass fisherman. T1D. disabled academic. I tweet about ableism and academic neoliberalism bc I am fun at parties.
Most colleges and universities are not proactively considering the needs of disabled and chronically ill faculty, staff, and students at this point in the pandemic and never ever will because they legally don’t have to until the people they should be considering out themselves.
I too would like to mechanical dope with a tiny extra motor. Current motor does not suffice for these times.
Cycling officials are inspecting bikes for hidden motors at the Tour de France to combat what is called “mechanical doping.” This effort aims to maintain the sport’s integrity amid skepticism fueled by past doping scandals. wapo.st/4md41yH
People have this unrealistic image of disabled people being surrounded by supportive family, doctors that take our conditions seriously, and tons of money from the govt. Y’all are gonna have a rude awakening when you become disabled. Most of us are barely surviving
The fact that the doordash disability debate happens like every 6 mos is exhausting. If you have never been abandoned by loved ones, medical instrastructure, and the govt, then youre not in a position to tell disabled people how to survive. 1/2
But if you ask the Ableds, “not everything is eugenics.”
They just gave ICE access to Medicaid records and now they’re criminalizing homelessness and mental illness. This isn’t public safety, this is eugenics.
The tech sector wants historians to disappear, because it wants you to be ignorant of historical truths. And it doesnt want people gaining the tools or resources to interrogate the historical record for themselves. Maybe ask yourself why.

feels wrong to talk about the distress I experience over the genocide in Gaza as a person of conscience, also feels wrong that some people, people who aren't persons of conscience, don't seem to experience distress over it. its strange where the most appropriate thing seems to be
petty officers on the Titanic suddenly shouting to be heard denouncing the iceberg from their positions at the front of the lifeboat queue
I “love” the threads where the OPs are purposefully making claims or asking questions that are rather unanswerable or are highly debated and then a fair number of people reply by prompting grok to chime in with an “answer.” What are we doing? Also, why?
my wife explained the 6 degrees of separation thing to our kids and I was thinking about it and realized a) I'm bad at counting the degrees and b) I think I'm 4 degrees from Stalin, maybe 5
For people who ask me my reasons for resisting AI, “that it’s the focus of just about every commercial leads me to conclude that it’s probably an awful thing we are being indoctrinated to accept as fine, even good” would seem to be a completely reasonable reply.
How do I opt out of AI-selling commercials? They are every commercial on many streaming platforms. Just saw one for Grammarly focusing on how it’s an indispensable tool for an adjunct professor.

why do I need to do two-factor authorization to access my student loans. if someone wants to log in and pay them they can have at it
Is there even a definition of “AI” that can account for differences across these professions or are all technological advancements just “AI” now?

Mind you, you all were functionally disabled during the pandemic and overloaded grocery delivery services to the point where the disabled people that used them regularly, you know the ones you look down on for the same thing, couldn’t get their orders.
