“πῶς,” ἔφη, “ὦ Σοφόκλεις, ἔχεις πρὸς τἀφροδίσια; ἔτι οἷός τε εἶ γυναικὶ συγγίγνεσθαι”; καὶ ὅς, “εὐφήμει,” ἔφη, “ὦ ἄνθρωπε: ἁσμενέστατα μέντοι αὐτὸ ἀπέφυγον, ὥσπερ λυττῶντά τινα καὶ ἄγριον δεσπότην ἀποδράς”. Plato, Rep. 329c. Very important discussion.

I've always believed that I am exceptionally good at some sport---think national champion---I just don't know what that sport is. It could be the standing long jump with halteres (hand weights). Or hockey. I guess I'll never know.

I am pretty ignorant about Greek literature. I know almost nothing about Neoplatonism; I know very little about the Second Sophistic; I know a small amount about early Christian literature. I see names like Lucian, Porphyry, Origen, Gregory of Nyssa and I feel dumb.
You should follow this account. I make and enjoy many of his recipes. I just like Greek (food).

There is a lovely rare Greek word τανύσφυρος "thin-ankled." Homer uses it to describe Persephone (Hymn to Demeter 2). Hesiod uses it to describe the 3,000 daughters of Ocean (Th. 365). Having thin ankles was a trait of a beautiful goddess or woman.
Socrates, "I am descended from Zeus."

Regarding Greek culture, Jaeger writes "The reason for its survival as a whole was the fact that it possessed Plato; had it not been for him, the rest of Hellenic culture might have died along with the old Olympian gods" (p. 44).

"...any serious classical scholar has to read a great deal of German..." (p. 190).

If you are called for jury duty, and you want to serve, good for you, citizen! If you want to make sure you are NOT chosen, however, when showing up to the selection phase, dress queerly (a bow tie or a monocle are good choices) and act strange (talk to yourself, twitch).
Someone was talking about jury duty. It was their 3rd time being called in 2 years. I must be on a list of some kind…I have never been called for jury duty…ever.

Fraenkel sent these Greek verses to Housman along with his lecture, as thanks to the person who first gave him a foothold as a refugee to England. "Go on that path, my writings. 'But father, we greatly fear approaching the house of Housman. He is a great poet and the greatest of…

This account is brain dead. Check out Odyssey 8.492 ff. And the many representations of the Trojan horse in early Greek art.
The famous Wooden Horse from the 2004 film Troy. It doesn't appear in Homer’s Iliad (c. 1200 BCE),but first shows up in Virgil’s Aeneid(19 BCE). Oral tradition—or Roman invention? No archaeological evidence of a wooden horse has been found at Hisarlik,Türkiye. Debates continue.
