Here's a humdinger.... "Assessing the incidence of ‘can see, cannot intubate easily’ during routine use of C-MAC videolaryngoscopy." Is it a real problem - with a MacVL - with a HAVL Well basically no! Another cracking science letter from the team @anaesthesia @Fionafionakel…

@Kevin_Fong , @doctimcook & I have contributed to the Discussion of ‘Some statistical aspects of the Covid-19 response' by Wood et al academic.oup.com/jrsssa/article…
Agree 👍 The HAVL technique is an advanced skill requiring specific training . This should include optimal use of stylettes and/or flexi/rigid boogies. An adjunct usually required for successful TT placement with the HAVL
"Our findings indicate that the phenomenon of ‘can see, cannot intubate easily’ occurs in around 1 in 10 tracheal intubations with a VL. It is associated with clinical and device inexperience but we found it no more frequent with use of a hyperangulated blade." #Anaesthesia…

Who is getting an arterial line? • 10% of patients in non-obstetric surgery • 22% of neonates • 17% of patients aged 66 - 75 y • 13% of patients aged ≥ 85 y #anaesthesia #MedTwitter doi.org/10.1111/anae.1…
There is ⬆️ arterial line use with ⬆️ ASA physical status ASA 1 - 2% ASA 2 - 6% ASA 3 - 19% ASA ≥ 4 - 45% BUT of ASA ≥ 4: • 62% aged 36–45 y had arterial monitoring vs. 25% of those aged > 85 y Why? #anaesthesia #MedTwitter doi.org/10.1111/anae.1…
And another Great Science Letter from our team -everyday VL - within patient comparisons of laryngeal view with a Mac VL vs Mac DL - 1373 patients - all grades, experience & locations Difficult laryngoscopy DL 2.5% VL…

Delighted to see this published Great work by Sam Gunning and David Unwin Does VL assist in teaching DL? A systematic review of sparse & imperfect quality studies TL/DR -VL with a Mac improves teaching of DL (significantly improves 1st attempt success). Time taken and overall…

When teaching laryngoscopy, do you advise your learners to start with direct (DL) and then transition to video (VL)? Read our latest systematic review of studies comparing DL and VL for teaching DL published in @BJAJournals. You may be surprised by our findings 👀

Yes! Finally some data that shows what we’ve seen. July is a challenging month for those of us mentoring in US training programs….. 😫
Agree @doctimcook In practice teaching VL first allows instruction on the laryngopharyngeal structures . After practicing you can then turn the screen & teach DL skills . The later now a more advanced technique @dasairway @altgm

1/ Tucker Carlson: “Do you think overall the COVID vaccine killed more people than it saved?” RFK Jr: “The truth is, I don’t know.” This is outrageous. I do know. The answer is: unequivocally no. 🧵
Here is a new analysis from the 7th National Audit Project (NAP7) regarding the use of invasive arterial blood pressure monitoring in routine anaesthetic practice in the UK. #anaesthesia #MedTwitter doi.org/10.1111/anae.1…
We’re thrilled to have learnt that our former Anaesthesia editor, Dr John Carlisle has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours. Congratulations to Dr Carlisle and all NHS colleagues who have been recognised ✨
Great to see this Science letter from #NAP7 published The graphic shows frequency of IABP use by specialty and patient risk category You decide, is current use of arterial lines is logical.....& equitable? @Anaes_Journal @adk300 @jas_soar @drrichstrong @emirakur @RCoANews…
There are some studies…e.g. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36008202/. No studies looking at long term outcomes @CAREFUL_STUDY is looking into this
