There is a statute of limitations on the *crime* of illegal entry, but yes, it's true; you can be here for 50 years and still end up deported no matter how good a person you may be. It doesn't have to be that way! Congress used to fix these situations. x.com/ReallySeamus/s…
That there isn’t any sort of “statute of limitations” on illegal entry and a formal status for all people that would allow anyone to adjust after X amount of time is just so frustrating.

Good news! The Trump admin ended a program which had been in place for decades to ensure that people with serious competency issues didn't face deportation without a lawyer. A judge just blocked that termination and ordered the government to restore funding.
