Product Designer x PM @Automattic ... thinking about digitalisation, blockchain and a decentralised internet. Playing in the mountains.
“Technology’s challenge to traditional geopolitics goes beyond crypto, tech companies, and even digital space itself, as it has begun reshaping the physical world.” - A great follow up to @balajis post from 2013: wired.com/2013/11/softwa… foreignpolicy.com/2021/12/11/bit…
Probably the best thing you'll see today. In 2017, a group of developers hilariously competed for who could create worst volume control interface in the world. The results 🧵 1/22
Failure is learning. From kindergarten to Nobel Prize, the iterative loop of trial and error creates gradual human progress. Enter machine learning: * zero emotional hesitation to fail * systematic embrace of what worked and what didn't * exponential rate of iteration

"What's the motivation for people doing open source? It's fun. If you're a coder ... it is so cool to know that code you wrote is running billions of times a day, all around the world." Great to talk with @photomatt Full interview here: pushkin.fm/podcasts/whats…
Excited for Europe’s startups, best thing since Seedcamp! -> @pluralplatform
1/When we started @TeleportInc with @keskkyla & @balajis back in 2014, we were at Sand Hill Road. Like physically. Not a metaphor. Eventually the team shifted towards Europe, but that round would not have happened here from scratch.
I joined @automattic 11.5 years ago. During that time, we grew from 70 to 2,000 people. I am proud of building products with such a team and glad to see Automattic recognized as a most loved workplace. mostlovedworkplace.com/companies/auto… #tweet100
START A BLOG. Don't keep giving your keystrokes to companies that aren't YOU. Own your words or your words are WASTED. hanselman.com/blog/your-word…
A short list of media properties owned/run by billionaires today: New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, New York Daily News, Bloomberg, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, Time, Fortune, Politico, The Atlantic, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Daily Beast, The Intercept.
Don't oppose Elon running twitter (at least compared to status quo), but I do disagree with the more generalized enthusiasm for wealthy people/orgs hostile-takeovering social media firms. That could easily go *very* wrong (eg. imagine an ethically-challenged foreign gov doing it)
What the Zettelkasten was for Niklas Luhmann is the blog for Cory @doctorow. A great thread about how blogging is the foundation behind his great threads and essays.
In some ways, Pluralistic's long form essays are the dividends for the 20+ years I've been a daily blogger. All those short pieces I've written over the preceding decades are available for me to search and reference in longer, synthetic pieces. 4/
Open source is an infinite game. Closed source is a finite game.

Have been thinking a lot this week about the topic of funding public goods in the future. Thread to try to capture some raw pieces:
On decentralized identity - by @Jad_AE and @skominers future.a16z.com/decentralized-…
Note the use of decentralized storage on the backend. Every web2 app will be disrupted by a more private, programmable, and user-aligned web3 version.
🌐 We at Skiff are excited to share that we’ve removed our waitlist and integrated fully decentralized storage into Skiff via a collaboration with Protocol Labs. Read more here fastcompany.com/90696585/skiff…🚀🌐
How you might incentivize YIMBYism If residents owned fungible shares in a citywide REIT, rather than the nonfungible land under a house, they’d be incentivized to recruit great people to the city at large. Can test the concept in a new startup city first, backport if it works.
There are two classes of problems caused by new technology. Class 1 problems are due to it not working perfectly. Class 2 problems are due to it working perfectly. [I've expanded this tweet into a short piece:] kk.org/thetechnium/cl…
