“Unfortunately, just like any other community, you know, violence can happen,” said Chief Robert Long. “Unfortunately, this week, we had two serious incidents happened in the town of Gates, very uncommon here.” Investigators do not believe the two incidents are connected.
@13WHAM Gates police have confirmed that a man in his 20s was fatally shot at the Wegmans warehouse on Brooks Avenue. Suspect reportedly fled — investigators are not yet identifying the victim until family notifications are complete.
Gates police have identified the victim as 24-year-old Markis Ortiz-Harris, an Amazon facility employee. The department says there is no indication at this time that the suspected shooter was also an employee. The incident is believed to be a targeted attack.
