The janitor views GPT-5 as a new kind of AI system that other labs will rush to implement. And who am I to argue with the janitor?
My prediction every single lab will rush to implement gpt5 like systems exactly the way we saw labs rush to implement reasoning models as oai did . All those having a melt down over rumors accusing oai of ripping off will celebrate when other labs follow. But then again what do…
"Very excited about how the frontier is going to be pushed in all the non-verifiable domain in the upcoming months." Get ready.
RL and search working on open-ended problems is incredibly exciting! In some sense, IMO is just a teaser but nevertheless a perfect testbed for these techniques. Very excited about how the frontier is going to be pushed in all the non-verifiable domain in the upcoming months.
The U.S. Supreme Court has no definition of "hardcore pornography", and I have no definition of "AGI". I'll know it when I see it.

This guy gets it
i’m much more inclined to say that the RL *system* inside OpenAI is AGI rather than than any fixed model checkpoint which comes out of it
A model built with "techniques that make LLMs a lot better at hard-to-verify tasks" and able to think for >60 minutes per problem to get an IMO gold medal should also be able to think >60 minutes to write a solid legal memo. This seems slightly underappreciated right now.
chatgpt agent is an earlier version of the “same single reinforcement learning system” that won IMO gold with an older base model…
To summarize this week: - we released general purpose computer using agent - got beaten by a single human in atcoder heuristics competition - solved 5/6 new IMO problems with natural language proofs All of those are based on the same single reinforcement learning system
"And there’s a lot of room to push the test-time compute and efficiency further." 👀👀 x.com/polynoamial/st…
Today, we at @OpenAI achieved a milestone that many considered years away: gold medal-level performance on the 2025 IMO with a general reasoning LLM—under the same time limits as humans, without tools. As remarkable as that sounds, it’s even more significant than the headline 🧵
It’s hard to overstate the significance of this. It may end up looking like a “moon‑landing moment” for AI. Just to spell it out as clearly as possible: a next-word prediction machine (because that's really what it is here, no tools no nothing) just produced genuinely creative…
1/N I’m excited to share that our latest @OpenAI experimental reasoning LLM has achieved a longstanding grand challenge in AI: gold medal-level performance on the world’s most prestigious math competition—the International Math Olympiad (IMO).
