I just picked the two programs that most exude the essence of 8-4 without actually looking it up. I did just now look up Iowa's record. They went -- and you won't believe this -- 8-4 before their bowl game loss.
For what it’s worth, South Carolina was 9-3 not 8-4.
Just once in my life, I want to feel as strongly about something as the Big Ten and SEC feel about including 8-4 Iowa/South Carolina in the College Football Playoff.
