Christianity would change overnight if it put down the mantle of defending God and picked up the responsibility of loving enemies.
So many see the world through a "my lense": My family, my money, my church, my country, my rules, my opinion, my body, my rights, etc. We need a much bigger lense for seeing ourselves in God's world.
In 1-week our feed asked for our take on: John MacArthur Chip & Joanna Gaines Michael Tait Superman Baylor U Epstien Files & the IRS Decision. We're being discipled to be a commentator rather than contemplative. Don't we find this exhausting? We're opining ourselves to death!
I was told once "Nobody wants to hear 'love your enemies' in the middle of an oppressive empire..." Tell that to Jesus. Nobody wanted to hear it then either.
This one small habit could change the world (it changed my little world): Before pouncing on what someone said, slow down, don't assume, and then ask them, with genuine curiosity, what they mean by what they said.
I'm not all that interested in future church trends or new growth techniques. For 2000 years, the most relevant church has always been the one gathering around a table, caring for the neighborhood, following the words and ways of Jesus.
Jesus dined with the Pharisees, reclined at their tables, challenged them, and told subversive stories. He loved them. Jesus dwelled with the marginalized, walked their streets, and touched their wounds. He loved them. Jesus was indiscriminate with his love. Go and do likewise!
Live deeply into something for a few years before you begin touting and teaching it to others. ~ Richard Foster
It's OK not to be OK, but it's not OK to take it out on people just because you don't feel OK.
Why people take sides w/ a "strong man" - FEAR. Don't tell em they're ignorant. Don't argue them into a corner. None of it will crack the door. Ask what they fear? Why they fear? What a "spirit of fear" means to them? Self-protective fear is the fiercest force on the planet.
It's shocking how many Christians will set aside ethics (what is good and beautiful) for pragmatism (what works and wins) - even making the argument for the necessity of partnering with a little bit of evil to get things done efficiently.

You don't need a hashtag and a platform to change the world. You need a neighborhood and a little bit of faithfulness.
I really wish God-fearing meant Jesus-following. I meet so many folks who "fear God" but don't seek to practice the actual words and ways of Jesus.
I realize it isn't this simple. However, we all know by experience that this rings true. This is an important consideration for anyone who teaches or trains. Is there any doubt the church needs to rethink how we "preach"? Remember, education is about learning, not teaching.
