Those few of us who opposed this law when in @UKHouseofLords fought hard to expose its threat to free speech & privacy. This thread explains how dangerous. & illberal it is. One of its core claims-protecting children-doesn't hold up to scrutiny & for adults, it's a tool online…
🚨 UK’s Online Safety Act just came into effect, promising a “safer” internet. It’s a lie. This law threatens YOUR privacy, free speech, and democracy and paves the way for a surveilled, censored web. Want to know how bad it gets? 🧵
Prepare for winter folks. Wood, kerosene, whatever it takes. Your government doesn't care if you freeze to death.
Britain may have lower gas stockpiles going into the winter after the owner of British Gas indicated it plans to sell its stored gas. Centrica said the financial losses from its North Sea Rough gas storage business were not sustainable, meaning it would aim to sell the existing…
Oh here we gooooo Remember Keir Starmer’s Chief of Staff, Morgan McSweeney, founded the Centre for Countering Digital Hate, which tried to “Kill Musk’s Twitter” The Left can’t stand open forums and free speech because they lose all the arguments. Censorship is their only way
"Could Britain shut X down?" "Britain has the power to shut down any platform." As new rules aim to shield children online from pornographic & harmful content, @bbcpaddy presses Science & Tech Secretary Peter Kyle on how far the government is willing to go. #Newsnight
Just as local immigration protests were spreading, the OSA, brought in today, is blocking footage of anything of public interest going on, so if you're British you are somewhat prevented from seeing what is going on in your own country Grok, however, provides a workaround below
Completely outrageous but entirely predicable. In the name of child safety, the Online Safety Act has rendered all interactive websites PG – conveniently shielding voters from the horrors being created by their leaders.
This was fascinating. Ben is a very thoughtful guest, and doesn’t just recycle soundbites. It was deep, man. Enjoy.
What if "progress" isn’t progress at all, but a trap? In the latest episode of Footsteps in Utopia, @alexmaccaroon takes on The Progress Trap by @bencobley, a book that dissects how and why the modern Left claims moral and historical authority. Far from marching forward,…
Censorship and Chilled Speech: The Act pressures platforms to delete “harmful” content, even if legal, leading to automated takedowns of art, satire, or dissent. New offenses for “serious psychological harm” risk criminalizing heated debates. Platforms will over-censor to…

I get the sense, especially from miliband, that Westminster is awash in prescription methamphetamine which is giving them this completely unwarranted certainty and confidence

Demis Hassabis says getting AI right could help us solve energy, and lift the limits on human progress. Abundant energy makes water trivial, infrastructure cheap, and expansion to the stars inevitable. “Bringing consciousness to the universe. Waking up the universe.”
UN - Wait … so it’s OK for the unelected UN to demand the UK ban all free speech it doesn’t like, including on its ‘climate emergency’ But when the UK bans a group that criminally damaged its own defences and regularly engages in attacking people because of their race … they…
ECONOMY - As we near £3 TRILLION in debt, you need to focus now. The IMF are in the wings. It might start with the triple lock and tax increases but it won’t end there. The government has no way out but to slash all non essential spending, but they won’t. We are so screwed 💣
