In lighter news: my FPLC was just installed! I’ve been fascinated and obsessed with FPLCs since college and to have one of my own feels like a very surreal, but also grounding thing. Weirdly one of those “pinch me” moments as a new PI. #newPI @BioRad

Explored my new stomping grounds and took a picture with Goldy today!

Excited to announce the publication of my last paper from the Strahl Lab in Nucleic Acids Research! We show PHRF1-H3 N-terminal binding is crucial in mediating efficient DNA damage repair. Lots more to come from the Jain Lab on this in the coming years! academic.oup.com/nar/article-ab…
The lab is growing and we had our first lab meeting yesterday! #newPI

The Jain Lab purified its first protein today! This feels like such a milestone and I’m incredibly grateful to benefit from the years of wisdom and training I received from folks along the way. My lab manager did an excellent job here! #NewPI

About to get on an early flight heading to Chicago for #ASBMB25! My first conference as a PI and I'm giving a talk too! Would love to meet up with folks while there; shoot a message if you'll be at the meeting! #NewPI
A busy and momentous week for the Jain Lab! We did our first bit of science (minipreps 😅) and the lab grew with joining of its first two members: research staff Tiffany Engel and Michael Lent!

Things I wish more people knew about doing science in the US (thread):
Just boosting this post from a couple weeks ago. If you are interested in these openings or know of folks who might be interested, please reach out to me! TL;DR looking for a lab tech/manager and postdoc fellow. Please repost!
My lab is looking to hire a Research Technician/Lab Manager and a Postdoctoral Associate. If you are interested in the biochemistry and biology of the Histone Code and epigenetics, please consider joining the Jain Lab! For more info, visit jain-lab.org/open-positions/. Please repost!
What are folks using for lab organization/inventory/management? Quartzy, in-house spreadsheets, an abacus and a clay tablet...?

Thrilled to finally share the Jain Lab's website: jain-lab.org! Emma Vidal @DrawImpacts did a tremendous job and I couldn't be happier! Keep an eye out for exciting work on epigenetics and chromatin biology :)
The Jain Lab at the University of Minnesota is officially open! So excited to unpack and start setting up the lab! Stay tuned for more info on our work and job postings.

My selfie skills are rough, but here’s a picture commemorating an awesome trivia trio that I’ll miss dearly! Proteins and Protein Accessories: Rebecca Berlow (@BerlowLab), Logan Slade, and me.
