This is our genomic portray of a novel, diverse, and highly introgressed population of S. cerevisiae from the Neotropics. With 200+ new genomes of yeasts from open agave fermentations in 🇲🇽 and as part of the #YeastGenomesMx consortium efforts biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 🧵🧵🧵
Our new lab website is up, thanks to the awesome @richiam95 jinichlab.ucsd.edu May the Aztec god Xochipilli guide us through our journey of machine learning enzymology (and our other science adventures).
Happy to share that our new paper is now available online! In collaboration with Shuyi Ma's lab @ma_lab_cgidr, we applied interpretable machine learning to study how Mycobacterium #tuberculosis gene networks determine Mtb fitness under stress. 1/n biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Can’t share the details yet, but there will be a postdoc position in my team @i3S_UPorto (2.5 years, possibly extendable) to work on M tuberculosis fatty acid metabolism. If someone’s interested please DM me. Stay tuned!
Between 800,000 and 900,000 years ago, the population of human ancestors crashed, a 2023 Science study finds. The results suggest there were only ~1280 breeding individuals during the transition between the early and middle Pleistocene. scim.ag/8hk #ScienceMagArchives
Awwww.. friendship is the best driver of science research IMHO
This one is published today. Some fruits of friendship w/ @joshuagoldford and @champiDicty; huge thanks to Pippa Richter for pushing it over the finish line in style. journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/ms…

Summer is for #STEM! We were delighted to welcome more than 100 elementary, middle and high school students as part of our summer programs intended to spark an interest in the health sciences. Our visitors included ⬇️
Main paper: rdcu.be/dHS5F OpenProteinSet paper: arxiv.org/abs/2308.05326 GitHub repo: github.com/aqlaboratory/o… OpenProteinSet AWS: registry.opendata.aws/openfold/ Now, as for AF3: Yes! :-)
OpenFold paper is now out in @naturemethods. Timely. I’ll say more about AF3 at the end of this thread, but first I wanted to highlight what’s new since our initial release. (1/9)
We made it. One semester down as a new PI. Here is what’s on my mind tinyurl.com/5n84xhc9
