Collared lemurs are native to the forests of southeastern Madagascar where they play an important role to sustain forests as seed dispersers. As they eat fruit, they drop seeds on the ground. These lemurs also travel through the forest distributing seeds in their droppings.

Say hello to our gentoo penguin chick! Born June 13 and foster-reared by a gentoo penguin pair, this healthy 5-pound youngster will be introduced to the exhibit when it’s about 3-4 months old, after it has finished molting into its adult feathers and can swim and navigate better.

Happy #NationalKeeperWeek to our amazing team of keepers at the Central Park Zoo! When you see a zookeeper at the Central Park Zoo this week, make sure to say “thanks” for their hard work and dedication!

Our CA sea lions are back from their sojourn in Brooklyn! They were temporarily visiting @nyaquarium, which is also operated by @TheWCS, while we carried out repairs to their exhibit. Join us for a feeding at 11:30am, 1:30pm, & 3:30pm, & welcome them back.

Happy Fourth of July from all of us at the Central Park Zoo! We’re open today and would love for you to stop by and celebrate with some wildlife watching!

On hot days, our animals find ways to cool down, just like us. Many take a dip in a pool or find a shady spot to relax. Our snow leopards like to lay out on a cool rock under trees. They often lay with legs extended to increase the amount of their body in contact with the rock.

The crested coua is a member of the cuckoo family. They are native to Madagascar and are known for their striking appearance, including a blue-grey crest, violet and turquoise skin around the eyes, and a long, white-tipped purplish-blue tail. See them in the Tropic Zone.

Happy Pride to our LGBTQ+ staff, guests, and followers!

Mini-Nubian goats are little goats with incredibly long ears! These long, floppy ears help them regulate their body temperature in hot climates. Their ears are filled with blood vessels, and when blood circulates through them, it cools down before returning to the body.
