German state government says it is dumping Microsoft because of preference for open source. But if the solutions weren't German, would they still be switching? This isn't "digital sovereignty," it is "digital parochialism." f24.my/BFGe
The Trump admin has thrown down the gauntlet on burdensome state AI laws. "The Federal government should not allow AI-related Federal funding to be directed toward states with burdensome AI regulations that waste these funds..." whitehouse.gov/wp-content/upl…
UK possibly backing down on backdoor encryption threats, at least for Apple. But no company should be forced to implement backdoors that compromise the security of its products. theguardian.com/technology/202…
Respectfully, Senator: U.S. startups aren’t lining up for H20 chips because they’re much lower-performing and only exist because of export controls. U.S. startups want the top-tier chips, which are still controlled. The H20 is only relevant in places like China.
While U.S. startups and universities wait months for AI chips, the Trump Admin is green-lighting Nvidia H20 sales to China—just months after banning them. We should be advancing American AI dominance and national security—not rewarding CEOs who paid for dinner with Trump.
Overly rigid controls push Chinese firms away from U.S. tech, eroding America’s influence over global #AI standards. The admin should balance national security with policies that let U.S. companies stay competitive. Our full statement from @castrotech: datainnovation.org/2025/07/allowi…

Nice article by @morganstevens on how the federal AI moratorium would halt the patchwork of AI laws hurting small businesses. "State of Confusion: How a Patchwork of AI Laws Hurts Small Businesses and U.S. Competitiveness" actonline.org/2025/06/17/sta…
🚇 Big day for DC transit: WMATA is finally relaunching Automatic Train Operation (ATO)! After 15+ years offline, trains will now run faster, safer, and smoother—as they were designed to. It's wild that this automation has been out of service since 2009. wmata.com/about/news/Met…
A patchwork of state AI laws threatens to stall federal IT modernization and weaken U.S. AI leadership. A 10-year moratorium would give time to develop a unified national framework,@castrotech writes in @techpolicypress. techpolicy.press/fragmented-ai-…
Great piece by Dorothy Robyn on the need for structural reforms for U.S. air traffic control by separating operations from oversigh.: "Whereas in 1995 only four countries had separated ATC from the aviation-safety regulator, now more than 60 have done so..."
"Air-traffic control is a 24/7 high-tech operation trapped inside a regulatory agency," writes Dorothy Robyn: theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
