Some of my specific transcriptions of the Ship Catherine of New London in 1849 in the Bering Straits when it encountered sea ice in late June. #beringsea #Alaska

Reorganizing my 1861 Expedition Hurricane ship logs. The Antelope, a good addition. #Hurricanes #scwx

Log of the Barque Antelope, left New Bedford to the South, experienced the Expedition Hurricane a few days out of Port on Nov. 1-2, 1861.

Wipha won't be anything close to the 1881 Haiphong Typhoon, but it still could be real bad of course with the heavy rains. #TyphoonWipha #typhoon en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1881_Haip…
I remember Typhoon Yagi last year for Vietnam and hope Wipha is not a repeat. #wipha #typhoon theguardian.com/world/article/…
In the Powell 1849 diary on May 30, mention of a South Carolina Company on the Santa Fe Trail near Council Grove, Kansas.

Right now Tropical Depression Wipha and eventual track. #HongKong #typhoon

Kamchatka typhoons suddenly came to mind. Rare and likely weak with rain. Many years ago I found a 1850 whaling log that described a storm off Kamchatka and it is extremely detailed. Just 1 log, but it seems to me to be a strong if not a major typhoon. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_…
Verbal remarks on the weather during the July 28, 1915 Shanghai typhoon, this from USS Abarenda at Nanking (Nanjing). #Shanghai #typhoon

My transcription on Gales northwest of Hawaii on Oct. 27-28, 1830 from the log of the Richard Mitchell. It lasted for 2 days, so unless the ship unfortunately sailing in the same direction as the gale, probably not tropical, although it is early to get Kona storms. #Hawaii

I can say with massively high confidence, at least 320+ fatalities from the 1862 California floods. Probably a lot higher. Got some NV numbers too. Arguably with the 1927 Mississippi floods, highest for a weather related river event. #Flooding #cawx
1900 event, Probably not as high level as the recent Kerrville Texas event but still high. I wonder if then, the valley lower though. #TexasFloods #Kerrville # txwx #Flood

There was a similar tropical storm as TS Chantal around July 28-29, 1814 that brought heavy rains to SC, NC, and VA. Thomas Jefferson himself noted high rain amounts in his weather diary. #scwx #ncwx #vawx #Chantal #HurricaneSeason

The biggest Austin, TX 19th century floods were in 1843, 1852, 1869, 1870, 1889, and 1899. Information on 1869 and 1870 below. Rain for the 1870 a lot higher than 1869, so the comment on the wide channel is very interesting. #TexasFlood #kerrvilleflooding #TexasFlooding #txwx

This from a Kerrville, Texas newspaper on the July 2, 1932 flood. #Flood #TexasFlood #kerrvilleflooding #TexasFlooding #txwx
