A few thoughts on being a sociologist and a first-time attendee of @ACM_CSCW. 1) The community at #CSCW2024 is incredible. It's awesome to interact with folks from such interdisciplinary backgrounds, with so many identifying as "misfits" (or "undisciplined).

Not convinced a formative study is always needed. Some of what formative studies cover can just be found in related work or assumed outright. There are obviously good cases for formative studies, but I feel they are over-used without thought.
