Nest was small but had two tiers & a good number of workers developing. This is why it’s a good idea to make observations of stinging insects during the day, but act after dark. Yellowjackets are a lot smaller than most people believe. Safety first!!
The @AASGardenWinner 2024-27 perennial trials are off to a great start. The coreopsis comparison is putting on a show and the entries are getting established and looking strong. #NebExt
#students are great! And presenting to clients and professionals in #ecological #landscape #design. @UNL_IANR @UNL_CASNR @unlagrohort

For the month of May, we're shining a light on English Ivy, an evergreen perennial climbing vine with a fascinating biology and invasive presence! Let's stay vigilant and informed to prevent the spread of this invasive species! #InvasiveSpecies #EnglishIvy #KnowYourInvasives
Lichens are cool and fascinating. They do not need managed because they are not doing damage. Enjoy natures beauty! #NebExt
We are getting reports of dead carpenter bees around decks. This is normal. Not all carpenter bees survive the winter and their kin push them out of the nest during spring cleaning. #NebExt
Fear not owners of #maples. That’s not tree blood; a broken branch or squirrel chew wound is oozing sap that began to flow in this very warm #westher And the make #flowers are nearly finished @BYFUNL @UNLExtension

We are getting questions about yard clean up. We can clean up stick and trash and rake up under bird feeders. However, keep the rest of the garden as is. It's still winter and this is Nebraska. It will snow again. #NebExt
Informal very valuable peer review energizes students and puts a new set of eyes on their work. Great process for #presentation and #CriticalThinking in PLAS 467/567/867. @UNL_IANR @unlagrohort @UNLarchitecture

When students get to talk one on one with #landscape professionals everyone gains. #IANR #@unlagrohort @MarthaMamo3 @TiffanyHengMoss

Congrats @Neb_EMGV and all involved at U. of Nebraska! #UNL #UNLAgroHort
We are starting to see onion thrips on leeks. Depending on the population some damage can be done. Try washing off with water or insecticidal soap to manage the pest. #NebExt
Aster yellows starting to show up in the landscape. This disease is caused by a phytoplasma that will distort the blooms. All plants in the aster family are susceptible. Dig out the plants if they are showing symptoms. #NebExt
Taking a few extra minutes to check the proper soil depth when planting trees makes all the difference. Trees that are planted too deep will struggle and fail to thrive. #NebExt
The last #project for #ecological #landscape #design and #graduating seniors. You rock beautiful young people!! #GOBIGRED @unlagrohort @UNL_IANR
