Black bear encounter with Windy the feral mare! Leading us back to camp she stopped, looked & wouldn’t go any further but wouldn’t leave us. You can hear her snorting & when I looked into the thick bush, I saw a black bear walking away. Always trust horse sense!!
It’s raining steady & Windy took cover in the trees but comes out into the old corral hoping for treats every time she sees me. She’s acting weird, on edge, always listening & looking into the bush every few seconds. Something must’ve put a scare into her.

Temperatures cooled down enough to come out of heavy cover & into the open to feed
I saw a guy at Starbucks today. No iPhone No tablet No laptop He just sat there. Drinking coffee. Like a psychopath
Bear cubs exploring their new world with mom just out of sight. Imagine coming over the hill to check the camera & seeing a couple of cubs with no mom. Heart rate would definitely increase.
Agreed!! Thank you for the company!!
@bushcamp2 It was great to meet and greet with you today. An awesome person!!!
Sometimes a venison, onion, potato & vegetable hash is just what a rainy night calls for.

Mom & her cubs feeding on berries. The other 2 cubs are just out of the frame with tail end Charlie making a dash to catch up once again
Picked 4 bowls like this today & didn’t even put a dent in what’s out here. Freezing them on cookie sheets lined with wax paper & then into baggies.

Some nice bull elk grazing through in the morning sun.
Time for a little touch up, fuel & bar oil & I’ll keep cutting!

I’ve noticed gas stations don’t raise their prices very often on Friday anymore. They raise them Sunday when you refuel. I’m sure no one picked up on that 🙄
Fried catfish with a cornmeal coating (from @FarOutFoodz) on top of tortellini, garden lettuce & vegetables.

Cow moose & her calf heading back to heavier timber.
Just a few of the red cap boletes I found & I can’t believe how clean they are (no worms)! Now to slice them up & dehydrate them for future stews & pastas.

Yesterday I said Windy, the feral mare, was acting on edge. I checked the camera near the horse waterer & a sow grizzly & her 1yo cub keep passing through. Horses know!

“You see what he’s doing over there? He does this a lot even when we’re out with friends & it’s embarrassing”
