To properly do this it would involve doing countless pixel art LODs of each asset. You can't draw a castle and expect it to look good when zooming into it (or away from it). That's a tremendous amount of work. Or... Go the voxel route and scale each voxel as the camera zooms in.

Honest take: There's no game that successfully reproduces this aesthetic. It's been a week, and I have yet to see anything close. I wish devs would actually discuss why it's so challenging. Instead people's emotional hatred for AI is preventing that discussion from happening.
