A magical time of year is coming in February- a chance to see a natural #firefall at #horsetailfall in @YosemiteNPS Last year was the most amazing one I have ever witnessed-this video captured the wind moving the water in a spectacular show. #yosemite #yosemitefirefall
This week on my alpine butterfly survey, the exquisite Clodius Parnassian butterfly was out in force, flying from flower to flower seemingly effortlessly in the high country despite the high winds.

Four squirrels and a chipmunk in Yosemite's high country this week: golden mantled ground squirrel, Belding's ground squirrel, chipmunk (maybe alpine) and yellow-bellied marmots.

Not what you want to see from your porch. The #TrapFire is a little too close for comfort but hoping they get it contained quickly. As usual, some sort of human cause as no lightning.

"Excuse me, is that a mountain lion making that noise? " "No, that is a Clark's nutcracker." So began a delightful encounter on the trail I had this past week in Yosemite with two people that started off with a laugh. They were eager to learn and peppered me with questions…
My pika yesterday couldn't really come out to play--it was a windy day and the raptors were hovering above. But still had a few encounters--brief ones before they dashed back under the rocks.

Wow! This year will be out TENTH annual P-22 Day Festival! Don't miss it. Mark your calendars for October 25, 2025. It's going to be epic!

Delighted to have the company of one of the most splendid Sierra birds yesterday, the gray-crowned rosy-finch, a beautiful creature who shares my love of the high country. Here is how I describe them in my upcoming book, Yosemite Wildlife, with the @YoseConservancy : "The…

While looking for butterflies in Yosemite’s high country yesterday, I found another critter attracted by the wildflowers. Mule deer, Gaylor Lakes Basin, Yosemite.
Happy day! The house finches decided to have a second brood in the hanging basket nest on my deck. I love watching them raise their family!

There was no indication in the fossil record of the strong bond between chipmunks and velociraptors, but it has endured for millions of years. :D

Tempy 2 and Conness are buddies, but they rarely sleep together. I watched Conness curl up next to her and put her paws on Tempy 2-he is trying to comfort her knowing she is ill. ❤️
