Thrilled to be based in Chicago this year and affiliated with the @uchidemocracy! If you’re in Chicago and study anything related to democracy, backsliding, or nonviolent resistance I’d love to connect.

This is a classic dilemma for opposition politicians calling for international pressure in autocracies (the focus of much of my research!). Easy to get painted as “tools of foreign interference.” Now becomes increasingly relevant in democracies as well
If Lula plays this right — and manages to frame the Bolsonaro family, who instigated Trump to impose these tariffs, as fundamentally unpatriotic and anti-Brazil — his chances of reelection next year may have just increased substantially.
I'm very pleased to share that my paper, "Introducing CongressData and Correlates of State Policy," coauthored with @MattGrossmann and Caleb Lucas, is now out (open-access!) at Nature Scientific Data. nature.com/articles/s4159…

Nice to be back in the European continent. I’ll be in Paris for a few weeks for personal and professional reasons. Would love to grab coffee with anyone around!

Was great to present my dissertation research at the Workshop on International Politics at @UChicago!

I'm honored and excited to be presenting one of my dissertation papers on the international dimensions of democratic backsliding at @UChicagoPoliSci's Workshop on International Politics next Thursday, May 15th, at 3:30pm! If you will be in Chicago please feel free to come by!
Congrats to my friend and colleague, @alelov1 for graduating with her PhD!!!

I'm happy to share that my review of @PostSovietGraf's book, "Post-Soviet Graffiti," is forthcoming at @IAJournal_CH. It's an excellent book and will be essential reading for anyone interested in dictatorships, and especially resistance to it, with implications for backsliding!
And just like that…fourth year of the PhD is behind me! Wild to think how quickly time has passed since the start of the PhD. I’m grateful to old and new coauthors and both @MSU_poli_sci as well as @UChicago for allowing me to be visiting on campus this year!
