When @beausievers first presented this work in our lab, I remember everyone gasping for air. Fantastic idea and such beautiful methods and analysis. So ambitious. Check this out!
We talk to share how we see the world. Here, we show that natural consensus-building conversation leads to future neural synchrony. Deeply satisfying to see this in print. With @c_welk , @HassonLab , @akleinb , and @ThaliaWheatley link.springer.com/article/10.103…
Please enjoy a new video by MILM and Alexander Dupuis. Every year we get together and make a record in a week. This song is from our first record, MILM I. youtu.be/lKGMV2998fA?si…
Some very exciting news... after many, many, winter beards, I'm overjoyed to be joining sunny @UCSDPsychology as an Asst Prof in Jan 2025! Looking to recruit folks interested in doing some fun science, while building some cool (and useful) toys! Details: eshinjolly.com/lab/
What happens in our brains when we come to consensus? I’m super excited to finally share the first video in a series of #neuroscience animated explainers for @InteractingMind youtu.be/ZmgJdih0g3I
RIP Larry Polansky - a major influence, mentor, and friend to Indexical. Huge loss for the Santa Cruz music scene and greater experimental music community.
I’ve been waiting for this paper to come out for ages. Outstanding work from an amazing team.

When I'm not doing science I'm in the band MILM. Here's an animated lyric video for our song Banger. youtube.com/watch?v=4R0mpB…

My lab is on the lookout for a new full-time RA to join our team! Please spread the word, esp to folks who might be a good fit. More info and application link: acrobat.adobe.com/link/track?uri…
This year I am particularly looking for prospective graduate students who are interested in studying social cognition by using deep neural networks as cognitive models to explain the computations performed by social brain circuits.
Planning to apply to PhD programs this fall? I'm looking to recruit a new student to @SCRAP_Lab! If you're interested, please check out the @DartmouthPBS departmental FAQ here: pbs.dartmouth.edu/menufeature/gr… & my lab policy doc, which you can find on this page: scraplab.org/people/
It is widely believed that the planarian memory transfer experiments from the 1960s were flawed and non-replicable. They're now discussed only as a scientific cautionary tale. But the critiques themselves were flawed. This is actually a meta-scientific cautionary tale.
Cumulative culture must withstand environmental change🌍How? One possibility: people have many learning strategies at their disposal🧠 Imitation is optimal in stable environments. When circumstances change, causal models can help🌟 Work with @fierycushman! escholarship.org/uc/item/78c4w1…

Looking for a good citation for the scaling hypothesis: the claim that neural nets exhibit qualitatively different abilities at scale. Interesting to see that although it seems a lot of people privately believe this, the published literature is waaaaaaaaay more circumspect
Been off Twitter for a while. Truly amazing how much bad-take-surfacing technology has developed. I'm in awe.
