Mehreen Faruqi has been censured for her protest during the Governor-General’s opening address to Parliament. Michaelia Cash failed to force an apology or suspension. A protester also stormed the chamber, screaming so loudly the broadcast was cut as security intervened.
JUST IN — Senator Alex Antic will introduce a Private Senator’s Bill to amend the Sex Discrimination Act, removing references to gender identity and restoring the definitions of “man” and “woman” — changes made under the Gillard Government in 2013.

The newly elected Labor MP for Menzies, Gabriel Ng, began his maiden speech noting his electorate “resisted the devastating impacts of colonialism” and expressed gratitude for end of the White Australia policy, which allowed his Chinese-Singaporean family immigrate to Australia.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has acknowledged Australia’s relationship with China, praising their “remarkable medical progress,” which includes “the development of new vaccines that literally millions of people are benefiting from.”
The Albanese Government has made a post-legislative decision to include YouTube in the social media ban without evidence-based justification. It is seen to be influenced by “a range of biases,” including those held by eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant.
