I have often talked in the past about the ways Mormonism harmed me. And I stand by that. But I also want to say something real and maybe a little unexpected: There are parts of me—good, strange, and strong parts—I wouldn’t have without the Church. I’m glad I was raised LDS.
If God exists as described by the holy books, then God must exist within paradox. If not, then God is something other than what those books describe…which means we have no reliable framework to understand God at all.

They exist, they’re just quiet about it. But not all of these things are aligned with truth, reason, or principle. Voting Republican, for example, is often not very principled at all.
If people left the LDS Church for truth, reason, or principle, you’d see ex-Mormons with stable marriages, clean lifestyles, no drugs, no booze, no porn, who voted Republican and were still living the standards—just minus the belief. Instead, you get shattered homes, open…
